Marine Commandant Orders Safety Review After Osprey Crash

A tiltrotor aircraft crashed Sunday, killing three Marines and injuring 20.

Acting Marine Corps Commandant General Eric Smith ordered a safety review for all MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft on Wednesday in response to a deadly Osprey crash in Australia on Sunday. Three marines were killed and 20 were injured when the Osprey they were flying crashed on Melville Island. Eight marines remain hospitalized and the incident is currently under investigation.

“Safety is a key element of our warrior culture. When we lose Marines we are not only heartbroken, but we are also less ready for combat,” General Smith stated. He hopes that this additional safety review helps the families of the deceased Marines “take comfort knowing that every possible measure has been taken to prevent a future mishap.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Acting Commandant General Smith as he seeks to ensure the safety of all Marine tiltrotor aircraft.
  • For the Marine Corps personnel to be thorough in the safety reviews of the aircraft.
  • For the families of those who were killed in the crash and for the recovery of those still in the hospital.
